Black History Month

TACSU is happy to announce Black Heritage Month events, a month long of collaborative events that are fun filled and critically engaging. They are designed to provide students to engage with various issues through different forms of expression. There are some exciting opportunities, competitions, prizes and awards throughout the month, therefore students are encouraged to actively partake in all events. Here is a list of some upcoming events and opportunities:

 

What Does Black History Month mean to YOU?

Location: Gzowski College, Room 115

Time: 7:00PM-9:00PM

An engaging discussion that you won't want to miss.

Refreshments provided.

 

Black/ Person of Color on Campus

Date: 28th January 2016 Location: Gzowski College, Room 115

Time: 9:00PM-10:00PM

A platform whereby students can share their experience as Black/Person of color students in a post-secondary institution. Students will be asked to write their experience on a blackboard and will take pictures, which will then be recreated as posters to be put up across campus.

 

Meet and Greet with Liberty Silver The Great Hall.

Feb 4th

Time: 3:00-5:00PM

Liberty Silver was the first Black woman in Canada to receive a Juno Award in 1985. Ask questions and socialize. Refreshments provided.

 

Slam Poetry Night The Celie.

Feb.4th

Time:5:00-8:00PM

Accepting requests to perform at the Celie on February 4th with Liberty Silver. Don't hesitate to participate there will be multiple open floor performance requests. Reply with a titled email, 'Celie Performance'.

 

Pub Night with Traill College Feb. 10th Time: 7:00 -10:00PM

 

Calling for attendance of our members in cultural wear, if possible a dish originating from your home country. Please reply with details of your cultural costume and/or dish.

 

Naturalista Campaign:

Finding home here An online campaign running throughout the month of February that engages students by capturing how they perceive themselves in their natural habitat/being, with the hopes of creating an album of photographs that would be available online. This campaign is more than just a celebration of natural hair, but also a celebration of loving one's self the way you were made - being at home in the castle of your skin! Submission from the general community is welcomed, send to tacsugroup@gmail.com, or tag us/use the hastag #tacsu on your IG posts for a repost!

 

Arthur-Black Heritage Month, Arthur-the student newspaper will running editions dedicated to the month of Black Heritage Month. Students are encouraged to send in articles, poetry, illustrations and more to editors@trentarthur.ca. Please refer to the attached calendar for more information.
